Abstract: This study aims to assess the performance of Rokel Commercial Bank using the CAMELS analysis framework, a widely recognized tool for evaluating the soundness of financial institutions. CAMELS, an acronym for Capital Adequacy, Asset Quality, Management Efficiency, Earnings, Liquidity, and Sensitivity to Market Risk, offers a comprehensive evaluation of a bank’s financial health and management practices. By applying the CAMELSS methodology, this study critically examines Rokel Commercial Bank's performance over ten years from 2014 to 2023, analyzing key financial ratios and qualitative indicators. The findings revealed the bank's strengths and weaknesses in each CAMELS component, highlighting areas of robust performance, such as capital adequacy and asset quality, while also identifying potential challenges in management efficiency and earnings stability. The study concludes with recommendations for enhancing Rokel Commercial Bank’s overall performance, particularly in areas requiring improvement to sustain long-term growth and profitability in a competitive banking environment. The policy implication is to provide valuable insights for regulators, investors, and management to make informed decisions regarding the bank’s operational sustainability and risk management strategies. The study findings will help the policymakers understand the financial performance of banks operating in Sierra Leone and help them in making appropriate economic decisions. |
